Super Heroes at Heart
Shadow Buddies Superhero Program – “Courage Capes”
Super Heroes are a big part of hospitals and children look up to Super Heroes as their role models. Our goal is to have every child going through a situation feel like a “Super Hero” and be able to put their “Courage Cape” and mask on anytime they need it during treatment or in the hospital. We address the emotional and psycho-social part of medical treatment allowing the children to do play therapy. Our programs are a tangible piece the children and their families get to keep and use throughout their entire healing process and beyond. Continuing the Superhero excitement and provide comfort and compassion to children in our community, we launched our “Courage Capes” program for the child being treated in the hospital or outside a facility who works with children facing medical challenges. We designed and are sewn with love a Superhero “Courage” Cape and mask for pediatric patients 1-14 years of age. Allowing these special children giving them the feeling of power and courage is so important in the recovery process while facing a chronic illness, disease, or treatment. Through the hospital and Child Life Departments, children are encouraged to do art therapy allowing them to express their feelings and draw their symbol of hope! Our goal is to donate 30,000 capes and masks throughout the year.
